Information for interested riders

20 April 2017

This year the club has decided to trial a Short Course MTB Race for adults and teenagers to be run after Dusty Demon’s. If there is enough interest we will run it for the full season of 23 weeks till the end of September. If there is not much interest we will try a 4 week block.

What and Who: Short Course is the perfect way to introduce yourself to mountain biking. It is a 20 minute plus one lap race/ride around an easy track, suitable for all ages. We will be running it for 13 to 99 year olds.

Why: The objective is to challenge yourself, try out mountain biking, improve your skills, go hard, have a laugh and have some fun. This is a very low-key riding get together.

When: Depending on interest the season will run every Monday from Monday 24th April till Monday 25th September (see calendar). Sessions will start at 5.30pm and finish by 6.30pm.

Where: Short Course will be held on the short course track in between the Scout Hall and Larapinta Drive in Alice Springs.

How: Competitor’s will all start together and ride around a short course for 20 minutes plus one lap. The person with the most laps and shortest time wins.

Expectations:

·       Bring a functioning bike, helmet and water bottle for hydration. You will also need lights when it gets darker.

·       The cost is $5.00 per race and you must pay in CASH.

·       You must be a member of Mountain Bike Australia (MTBA) or buy a day licence. First time members can take up MTBA’s offer of an 8 week free trial membership. Click on link above to become a member of MTBA.

Communication will be mainly through both CARR Alice Springs MTB Club and Alice Springs Mountain Bike Trails Facebook pages and email so please check them regularly for updates.

We need volunteers to help make the Short Course happen. Running the Short Course is really simple and research shows that volunteering contributes to your wellbeing! Despite that, to entice and acknowledge the incredible contribution volunteers make in our mountain bike community we are offering an opportunity for volunteers to win $300. Each time you run a Short Course your name goes into the draw and you increase your chances of winning $300. One name will be drawn at the end of the season. Those interested please reply to this email with the date you will volunteer.
